Elder Bastian Miracles

Our mission office couple discovered Sister Black had blood clots in her legs. Brother Black was disappointed when he thought he couldn’t return to Korea where he had served his mission.
The church called Brother and Sister Bastian to serve as the office mission couple. They were surprised, because they had never been to Korea. Brother and Sister Black were elated when the blood clots were treated in time for them to get to Korea, just one week before the Bastian’s.
President Turner had to come up with jobs for the Bastian’s. We had a wonderful time getting to know the senior missionaries at several get togethers. In October the Bastian’s went on tour of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to go on a tour.
While on the tour Brother Bastian had a serous stroke. He was taken to the hospital, by an Army Helicopter that was there from Camp Humphrey’s. If he had been taken by ambulance, he would not have made it in time. He couldn’t walk or talk. The Korean Hospital saved his life by doing a procedure that is NOT done in America.
He was also given blood thinner, which is what the U.S. does treat this type of stroke. If he had the stroke in America, he would have died. After the surgery President Turner gave him a blessing. Brother Bastian told us later, “I couldn’t even talk. I remember President Turner telling me, that he had given me a blessing. He told me that I would completely recover. That helped me a great deal on my month long recovery.”
We were invited to the mission home to an early Thanksgiving Dinner, to say goodbye to the Bastian’s. They were flying home to spend Thanksgiving with their family. Brother Bastian’s also would need therapy. We were also invited to spend the night, and go with some of the missionaries to the Temple the next day. It was so wonderful to spend time with special friends we have had such a short time with. It was a wonderful surprise is see Brother Bastian doing so well, amazingly well! He only talked with a slight stutter. It was an unforgettable evening! Three Sunday ago I was talking to a Sister in Camp Humphreys, about the Bastian’s. Her face lit up and she said, “My husband was on that Helicopter. How is he doing?” It was so fun to send her pictures, so her husband could share then with his crew. They were thrilled to know he lived and was doing so well. I was so great being able to pass on information to those that had help with Bastian’s Miracle.
