Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Today was a
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day! We met with the Sister missionaries,
and Ann. We went over the first lesson. We started by having Ann tell us more
about her background. Her mother went on a LDS mission, and went to BYU.
She fell in love, and had plans to marry. Her boyfriend
broke up with her and married her roommate’s sister. Her mother was devastated.
She left the church. She married a Jewish man and had two children. The
marriage didn’t work out, her mother turned to alcohol. Ann had to raise
herself and care for her mother. At 10 years old, she was putting her mother to
bed after she was passed out on the floor. When she couldn’t get her up, she
would but a pillow under her head, and cover her up with a blanket. When she was 16 her father died from cancer. Even though she only saw him twice a year, she felt close to him. When he died she was hurt, and angry. In college she joined a sorority. She said I did what they do in a sorority. She said, “I knew it was the wrong thing to do. I just followed the social pressure…I always knew what I should. I knew how I should live; it was just hard not having any support." Sister Carpenter asked Ann, “Have you ever felt Gods influence in your life?”

Ann told us this story, “Several years ago I had been to a party. This guy was going to give me a ride home. I was drunk, he was even drunker. We were going 80 mph, when the motorcycle repeatedly rolled. I was thrown from the bike, and rolled a long ways. I had no broken bones, only some road rash. The motorcycle was a heap of metal. The rescue workers were shocked that neither one of us died. I know God saved me. I know my father watches out for me. I know my father has taken care of me since he died."
To hear this young lady talk was amazing. She told us about different churches she went to. However, the Mormon church was one she always wanted to go to. When Sister Carpenter challenged Ann to read the Book of Mormon she said, “when I was in basic training I made it through 1 Nephi. I will try to get back in the habit of reading the Book of Mormon. I know once I get in the habit it’ll be hard to stop. My goal lately has been to pray daily."
As she spoke it was hard for
us not to cry, for this incredible young lady. She had done her best to learn
from her past, and her mother’s mistakes. You could feel her wonderful spirit.
She knows the gospel is true, she wants to learn more. She wants to learn about
the Book of Mormon. She gave the closing prayer. As I said before, it was a
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day!
